We have an exciting update to share with you!
Since XCellR8 started 16 years ago, we’ve been on an amazing journey, leading the way in the development and application of animal-free safety testing for the cosmetics and personal care sectors and beyond. But our in vitro tests aren’t for safety alone – they can also provide crucial data to demonstrate the efficacy of ingredients or finished products, enabling companies to substantiate claims and satisfy the increasingly stringent regulations on claims and advertising around the world. Recently, we’ve been expanding our offering in the claim support area, and we have some exciting R&D plans evolving, to go even further. We’ve loved to see our data already starting to appear in our clients’ marketing materials and scientific publications.
Uniquely at XCellR8, all our tests are assessed against our animal-product-free scale, to ensure transparency for brands who want to ensure that any testing they undertake is in compliance with their stance on cruelty-free and vegan approaches.
Why perform in vitro testing for claim support?
The packaging and marketing materials of cosmetic and personal care ingredients and formulations proclaim their many benefits to the consumer. However, it is vital that these claims are accurate and not misleading. Therefore, it is fundamental that efficacy testing is robust and scientifically valid.
With the massive surge of consumer awareness and support for cruelty-free and vegan testing, there is an increased demand to go beyond statements about how products are not tested (for example, “not tested on animals”, or the presence of cruelty-free logos such as the Leaping Bunny or PETA). Consumers want to be confident about safety and efficacy, and to know how products and their ingredients are tested. Are the tests animal-product free? Are they scientifically valid? Are they human-relevant?
At XCellR8, we have been at the front-line of scientific innovation, championing and developing animal-product free tests for 16 years and can confidently answer ‘YES’ to all these questions.
XCellR8’s animal-product free efficacy tests can be used to provide valuable claim support data for use in product development, such as the screening and identification of top candidate formulations or most efficacious ingredients, confirm activity of final products, or provide a ranking benchmark against your leading market competitors, prior to the commissioning of expensive human volunteer panels.
Our adaptability and flexibility mean that the efficacy testing we provide can be tailored to your specific requirements depending on the type of product and desired claim.
Our expertise includes testing for antioxidant activity, healthy skin barrier, skin pigmentation, mildness (skin, eye, mouth and gums, intimate area). We can measure changes in gene expression and protein levels in human cell cultures and reconstructed human tissues. These completely animal-product-free / vegan test methods can provide crucial data to support ingredient and product claims, including:
- Mild / gentle
- Soothing
- Antioxidant
- Hydrating / moisturising
- Healthy skin barrier
- Healthy aging
- Collagen boosting
- Skin lightening / brightening
- Even skin tone
We recognise that every product is unique, and our scientists are experts in designing bespoke protocols to meet the specific goals of each new product development (NPD) project.
