Improving human safety without compromising animal welfare or the environment

IMPROVING HUMAN SAFETY
Our founders, Dr Carol Treasure and Bushra Sim remain the independent owners of XCellR8 today.
From an early stage in their careers, they concluded that animal testing poses not only ethical issues, but scientific ones too, and so founded XCellR8 to improve methods for predicting human safety using human cell culture and other in vitro techniques.
In 2013, the laboratory achieved Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) accreditation, followed by the Lush Prize for training. Soon after, in what we believe to be a world first, XCellR8’s animal-product-free adaptations of existing tests for skin sensitisation, skin and eye irritation and skin corrosion gained regulatory recognition from OECD and ECHA.
BEAUTY LEADING SUSTAINABILITY AND ETHICAL INNOVATION
The Lush webinar, uncovered practical non-aninal methodologies and showcased cutting edge work on the use of animal-free safety tests in its supply chain.
Dr Carol Treasure presented scientifically and ethically advanced methods for product or ingredient safety testing, without involving animals. Focused at empowering manufacturers across the cosmetics and personal care spectrum, meet consumer needs and trends.
There is a rapid increase in consumer demand for personalised products, made by clean and transparent ingredients, with respect to our planet and all its inhabitants. Companies like Lush, have tapped into cutting edge innovation in safety and efficacy testing, and are reaping the rewards.
